I wanted to make a video that would speak to a question a lot of people have in the aftermath of a historic election, but one that rarely gets addressed immediately: What now? At a moment like this, there's no shortage of coverage dissecting election results and why the race turned out the way it did. But at Vox, we think the best election coverage focuses on stakes: what stands to change if a particular candidate wins. So, what stands to change now that Trump has won?
To answer that, I talked to six Vox reporters about issues ranging from abortion to foreign policy to the makeup of the government, and I asked them that question: What now? Their answers added up to an overwhelming sense that this Trump administration will be different from the first — more focused, more efficient, more strident on many issues, and, well, just more Trumpy.
The resulting video tries to tell that story in eight chapters and 13 minutes. My hope is that for at least some viewers, it's a doorway out of this moment of confusion and toward a place of more clearly understanding what comes next. I spent the last two weeks on this video knowing it might never see the light of day, but I did it because of how important we knew it’d be if Trump won. I’m glad we made this video, and I hope you find it useful. If you want to support this type of journalism, please consider becoming a Vox Member today.
