1 | OpenAI announced GPT-4o, its latest AI model with text, vision, and audio capabilities. GPT-4o, with an "o" for "Omni," will be accessible to all ChatGPT users, including those on the free version. More: - OpenAI says GPT-4o is a step closer to “much more natural human-computer interaction.”
- GPT-4o transforms ChatGPT into more of a digital assistant that can converse in real-time and analyze visual content like photos and documents.
- It offers a similar level of intelligence as GPT-4 but operates faster, OpenAI said.
- The system also features improved personality and conversational abilities.
- In demos, OpenAI showed GPT-4o translating speech in real-time, solving math equations, and attempting to detect human emotion from selfies.

3 | U.S. and Chinese officials will meet in Switzerland on Tuesday to begin talks on AI risks and safety. U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to the talks during last year's APEC summit. More: - A U.S. delegation, led by White House and State Department officials, will meet with a Chinese team co-led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Development and Reform Commission.
- The bilateral talks will center on AI's technical risks and safety, particularly for advanced AI systems, as well as domestic efforts to address these issues.
- The Biden administration plans to bring up concerns about Beijing's AI applications in military and security that threaten U.S. and allied security.
- A U.S. official said the dialogue won't involve any technical collaboration or frontier research, and America's "technology protection policies" are non-negotiable.

4 | Amazon and Microsoft announced separate multibillion-dollar investments in France’s cloud and AI sectors. The investments were unveiled at today's Choose France Summit, a pro-business event led by French President Emmanuel Macron. Microsoft: - Microsoft will invest 4 billion euros ($4.3B) in France to expand and build new data centers, cloud, and AI infrastructure.
- The company plans to bring 25,000 advanced GPUs to the country by the end of 2025
- Microsoft also will train 1 million people in AI and support 2,500 AI startups by 2027.
Amazon: - Separately, Amazon said it would invest 1.2 billion euros ($1.3B) in France to expand its AI offerings and logistics network to speed up deliveries.
- The investment will boost AWS cloud infrastructure around Paris and logistics infrastructure in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
- The plan will create 3,000 permanent jobs in France, it said.
