MEET MIKE AND BARB PHILLIPS, OWNERS OF THE LODGE AT BLUE SKY
Mike and Barb Phillips are genuine stewards of the earth and had long dreamed of owning their own ranch one day. Mike’s grandfather was a rancher, as were all of his uncles, aunts, and cousins, and he grew up with fond memories of rounding up the cattle, riding horses and spending time with his family in nature. Barb Phillips is deeply committed to helping horses that have been abandoned or abused, and to giving them the love, respect, and care that they deserve. With a yearning to plant strong roots of their own, Mike and Barb purchased Blue Sky Ranch in 2004.
As their love for the land grew, they realized that they had a unique opportunity to share their special corner of the world with others who were likewise craving that important, and increasingly lost, connection with the natural environment. They decided to develop a small, luxury resort that would help guests forge deep, meaningful connections through six mediums: Organic architecture that mirrors the majesty of the land; immersive adventures for guests of all ages that encourage a spirit of play and discovery; nourishing cuisine that is driven by an on-site sustainable farm; a wellness sanctuary with restorative treatments and energy work; a unique special event space for curating memorable gatherings and celebrations; and an on-site High West Whiskey distillery which lovingly crafts small-batch whiskey from grain to glass. They aligned with Auberge Resorts Collection to manage and execute their vision, sharing a common love for the land and for timeless craftsmanship.

How I Became a Horse Thief
I’m Barbara Phillips, the horse thief. In 2013, I stole a mistreated horse from a very neglectful ranch and later named her Gracie. After hearing about the horrific abuse on the local news, I immediately got involved. The situation was grim. Only through police escort was I allowed to help any of the 140 horses involved. While helping with medical treatments, I spotted Gracie who had an infected, untreated wound. I convinced the officers to trailer Gracie to the veterinary hospital and I took financial responsibility for her. Several visits later, I loaded her in my trailer and took her to an undisclosed location.
